ABSENTIA
WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY MIKE FLANAGAN
PRODUCED BY FALLBACK PLAN PRODUCTIONS

CO PRODUCED BY JOE WICKER AND JOE HOLLOW

"Absentia" represents a rare kind of horror movie: one that doesn't rely on gratuity, gore, violence, and cheap shocks. Instead, it operates under the philosophy that if you combine fleshed out, realistic characters with a thought-provoking storyline, and then weave in elements of universal psychological fear, the result is what makes great horror films like "Let the Right One In," "The Descent," "The Exorcist" and "Session 9" possible.

After all, what you DON'T see is always scarier than what you DO....

"Absentia" follows Tricia Riley, whose husband Daniel has been missing for seven years. Her younger sister Callie comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him "Dead in Absentia." Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, while Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that Daniel's presumed death might be anything but "natural."

The project will be written and directed by Mike Flanagan, currently in production on the documentary “American Marriage." No stranger to the horror genre, his film “Oculus” achieved critical acclaim, winning more than a dozen awards at 35 film festivals, including Best Short trophies at the Dead By Dawn Film Festival, Manchester Festival of Fantastic Films, Dragon*Con 2006, and MicroCineFest. “Absentia” will be his fourth feature film.
